For this itinerary you will need about 50 minutes if you are travelling by car from Villa Zuccari, plus the time for the visits themselves.
In around 12 minutes from Villa Zuccari by car, you will arrive at Trevi which, like most of the medieval cities in this area, is situated on a hill. The city dominates the landscape, and overlooks the valley where the Clitunno River flows between Foligno and Spoleto. The most interesting artistic monuments are the church of St. Emiliano (12th century), the church of St. Francis (built in the Gothic style) and the Pinacoteca. While in the Trevi area you should not miss the chance to sample the olive oil from this area, the fame of which has led to the creation of dedicated events and institutions such as the Museo della civiltà dell'olio and the Festa dell'Olio nuovo.
Leaving Trevi, you'll reach Foligno in around 18 minutes (12 Km). Foligno is one of the very few Umbrian cities built in the valley plain. The most important points of interest are Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza Duomo, the Cathedral and Trinci Palace. Among the most important events that take place in the city we should specifically mention the
Giostra della Quintana, which is inspired by a horseback contest dating back to the 17th century, the aim of which was to determine which of the competing knights of honour was worthy of his lord or his ladylove.
Leaving Foligno you'll reach Spello in 17 minutes by car. Among all the cities in the area, Spello is surely the one with the most number of monuments testifying to the Roman era: the city walls and the gates of the city, together with the ruins of the theatre, of the amphitheatre, and of the thermal baths all date back to the Augustine era. For lovers of painting and art history, the Cappella Baglioni (Church of Santa Maria Maggiore) is unmissable. The nave was painted by Pinturicchio with images recording biblical scenes including the Annunciation, the Nativity and the Dispute at the Temple. There are other frescoes by the same painter and also by Perugino, which can be found on the pilasters of the entrance to the presbytery and in the chapels under the cross vaults.
