Gubbio is one of the most ancient cities of Umbria, extremely well-preserved over the centuries, and rich with monuments that testify to its past. The roman theatre, located just outside the walls, is one of the most important and ancient monuments. As soon as you enter the city you cannot help but notice the Basilica di Sant'Ubaldo at the top of the hill, overlooking the whole city. The heart of the city dates back to the 14th century, and the principal buildings, squares and fountains, like the Fontana del Capitano, over time have become very symbols of the city. Among annual events, the evocation of history that happens with the Palio della Balestra is one of the most recognised, nationally and internationally, because of its striking throwback to another time that can be experienced in every street of the city.
