a unique city...
Assisi
The fame of Assisi, which extends almost throughout the world, is greater than the city itself. Despite its Roman origins, today Assisi is mostly medieval. The eight gateways to the historic city centre are still in excellent condition, as well as two castles: Rocca Maggiore and Rocca Minore. Other places of religious and touristic attraction are related, of course, to the life of St. Francis, like the Basilica which has become an icon of the city. More than its churches and the extraordinary structures that are here, the real beauty of the city is to be found in the aura of the places that history and religion have made famous throughout the world.
